CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Troop Camping
Troop leaders may take their girls camping for a weekend to Camp Kaufmann from September- May. Troop camping is a weekend event up to 72 hours in duration, planned and carried out by a troop at camp. The troop leaders reserve the housing and plan for meals and activities.

For any camping trip, the troop must have on certified first-aid and cpr certified adult for each group up to 44 campers. Each house or unit must have its own first aid/cpr certified adult. If you plan to use a fireplace, fire ring or seasonal unit, you need a camp certified adult (see training section). If you are staying in a lake house and do not plan on using a fire place or pit, then you will only need an adult who has taken the Overnight Adventures and Beyond training. Transportation is not provided for these weekends.

Outdoor Classrooms for Troop Camping
Troops can choose to enhance their experience by hiring one of our experienced counselors to run a specific activity for them. You will notice that there are different classrooms based on the season and they include different prices and lengths. New this year, we are introducing program patches for each of these classrooms. If this is your first time participating in these programs you will want to purchase a base patch for each of your girls. They are available at our camp trading post for $8.50 each. They will receive a free patch at the end of each of their outdoor classrooms, which can velcro onto the base patch!

“Do-It-Yourself” Programs in a Box for Troop Camping
Troops can choose to enhance their experience by renting a program in a box for the weekend. Each season features different boxes. These boxes include all of the programs you will need for the weekend including earned badges for the group.

Special Events
These events are open to all ages. We provide the troop with all of the activities, food and supplies for the weekend. The food and menu will be provided for each troop. The troop will prepare their meal and will be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. We always include a SWAP making station and actual swapping time, so girls can get to know girls from other troops during these weekends. Transportation is not provided for these events.

Girl-Only Weekends
This is an independent experience for older girls. Girls come without their leaders or moms and meet girls from other troops. The girls are provided everything including: programming, transportation, food, experienced counselors and more. Girls work towards specific badges and Journeys.

Day Trips
Girls can enjoy these trips with their moms or with their whole troop (sometimes even their families). These programs are great way for girls to enjoy camp for the first time! All of the programming, supplies and food are provided. Transportation is not.

Summer Weekends
Spend summer weekends swimming, fishing, boating, and having a great time. Come prepared to meet new people and have amazing experiences.

Mini Sleep-Away
If you’re between the ages of 9 and 17, come away with us to sleep-away camp where we’ll help you learn to climb a tree and build your confidence. Sleep-Away Adventure Camp offers girls the chance to experience a world of adventure and discovery. Girls will spend their days learning leadership skills, making friends, and sharing the excitement of going away with other girls.

Encampments
Camping events organized and operated by Troop Camp-certified adult volunteers from a geographic subdivision of the council (i.e. a borough or service unit) in which several troops participate. The program is planned and implemented by volunteers; some of the planning and scheduling may be done by the individual troops.

CAMP FACILITIES: At Timber Lake West, Campers live in modern, paneled cabins called bunks. Each bunk is equipped with full bathrooms and storage space for each camper's belongings. Three to four counselors and eight to ten campers make up each bunk.

Campers make their beds, care for their own belongings and practice good personal hygiene. Our professional housekeeping staff maintains and sanitizes the bathrooms daily. A complete packing list and Parents' Manual make the process of preparing for camp as easy and convenient as possible.

The cabin or bunk is where campers learn to live together as a group, to share and to respect each other. We see bunk living as the core of the camp experience - central to our mission of teaching children the skills of making and keeping friends.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Timber Lake West's unique four-week summer camp program offers children a place to make new friends, try new activities and grow as a person. We believe that camp has to be safe and it has to be fun. That's what Timber Lake West is all about. We take all the fun, spirit, excitement and tradition of a full season camp experience and power pack it into four weeks.

Our athletic program includes clinics, instruction, inter-camp tournaments, and plenty of games played just for fun. We create the right balance between competition and good sportsmanship, allowing every camper to be comfortable joining in, while also promoting teamwork and spirit. At Timber Lake West, winning is great but our goal is that every camper walks off the field or court with more friends and feeling better about him or herself.

HARDCORE ATHLETICS:
Hardcore Sports is designed to provide extra instruction and drills in various sports for those campers who elect to work with extra intensity on their skills. The work-out sessions are held during an elective or swim period for those campers yearning to improve their skills, practice for upcoming tournaments or play at a higher level of competition. These campers get a chance to work on their mechanics through drills, practicing game situations, improving their mental preparation, building self-esteem and getting into or staying in great physical shape.

Two periods each day are devoted to swimming and water sports. Our emphasis is on safety, instruction and fun. Our experienced Red Cross certified waterfront staff provides special attention to improving swim skills with the main emphasis, of course, on safety. Timber Lake West's two heated pools set us apart from others. Our Olympic size pool makes free swim a favorite activity while our completely private spring-fed lake, right in the heart of camp, provides the thrill of water-skiing and an extensive boating program, featuring instruction in canoeing, kayaking, row boating, surf bikes, paddle bikes, banana boating and water skiing.

Adventure at Timber Lake West comes alive when our campers challenge themselves to try activities they have never done before. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, scaling our 35 foot climbing wall or soaring down our zip line, camp is meant to be an adventure.

Our low ropes course gives campers the opportunity to work together toward a common goal while building friendships, self-esteem and self-confidence.

As part of our program each bunk meets with our trained and experienced staff on our low ropes/team building course and on overnight camp outs. As a cohesive unit, the campers work together to accomplish the goals that they set for themselves at the beginning of the four week session.

Each day campers select two activities from a wide variety of athletic, adventure oriented, and performing or creative arts electives. Combined with our scheduled sports and waterfront activities, the Elective periods allow campers to customize their summer program. Every Wednesday is uniquely programmed for our entire campus. After a well-deserved later wake-up and breakfast on our campus, campers head out to a special morning of electives. EVENING ACTIVITIES:
Each evening is filled with a fun activity. Whether it's a “Broadway” production in our theatre, a campfire, masquerade social, outdoor games, contests or a late-night league game on one of our lighted courts, evening activities are among the best times of the day at Timber Lake West. Before bedtime, campers stop with friends at our Planet West Canteen, complete with snacks, Pop-a-Shot, ping pong, pool tables and air hockey.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Teen programs are strong and we’re proud that we continue to attract returning older campers year after year. In spite of all of the other choices that high school-aged children have in today’s world, the large majority of our campers choose to return to Timber Lake West all the way through the end of their Teen summers.

The Timber Lake West Teen Program begins with diverse programming, more day trips out of camp, more choice and flexibility daily, a later wake-up (they ARE teenagers, after all), many community service opportunities and strong staff and supervision. Our Teens alternate between a two-day Whitewater Rafting trip or a two-day trip to Hershey/Dorney Parks.

Our Teens are also part of our apprenticeship program in camp, through which they choose a specialty area and an age group with which they think they might like to work. For several hours each week, they will be assigned to work with these groups so that they can get a feel for coming back as Junior Counselors.

We provide structure, supervision, feedback and training so that they are successful AND prepared to be part of our staff!

CAMP FACILITIES: Located in a large church basement and courtyard, we are near to all NYC has to offer. One block walk to Prospect Park. Certified school buses take us to local pools and on trips.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: For over 25 years Park Explorers has been taking campers to explore the wonders of nature in Prospect Park. Trips to karate studios, gymnastics, pools, Parks and Nature Centers, tennis, beaches, and trips to amusement parks and fun places children love.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Clover Patch is a summer camp for individuals with disabilities where each camper is encouraged to reach his or her fullest potential. Since 1965, Clover Patch Camp has provided individuals with disabilities opportunities to make new friends, create everlasting memories, and experience a genuine camp setting.

Clover Patch Camp is operated by the Center for Disability Services, a non-profit organization consisting of a wide variety of programs designed to serve individuals with disabilities. Camp is located 30 minutes northwest of Albany, New York, in the town of Glenville. Serenaded by the constant trickle of the Alplaus Creek, it is home to nature trails, rustic cabins, and a heated swimming pool; all fully accessible.

Clover Patch Camp is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and is required to be inspected annually. Inspection reports are on file at: New York State Department of Health.

Campers will have the choice of participating in fully immersed weekly programs in various sports and activities led by professional level instructors who have reached the pinnacle of their field, or they can choose to maintain a broad based program in all activities while still receiving access to the instructors at their own pace. CAMP FACILITIES: Silver Lake is a picturesque camp, situated on over 300 acres of rolling green hills with a 96-acre private lake. Since opening in 2004, we have been busy improving and upgrading all of our facilities. During that time we have built all new bunks and renovated our basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Michael and Shari Baer, owners of Camp Chipinaw, established Silver Lake in 2004 as a session camp that allowed campers to attend for 3, 4, or 7 weeks. Silver Lake incorporates all of the traditions, activities, and spirit of Chipinaw… but does it twice each summer! CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Bonjour NY is a French immersion summer camp located in the heart of New York City. We offer weekly registration from 1 to 9 weeks. Bonjour NY was elected "best camp attended in NY" by our families, is accredited by the American Camp Association and is a NYC licensed.

Our campers spend a lot of time outdoors playing sports, water games, swimming, going out on fun trips to local farms, making bread at local French bakeries.... The staff engages in French only with the campers through live games, songs, arts...

Our staff is fluent in French and comes from all over the world. All staff members are fully trained by Bonjour NY and many are also certified in Advanced First Aid, CPR for the Professional rescuers, lifeguarding...Everybody is carefully selected and a full background check is done on all employees. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Addisone Boyce (CAB) provides experiences that will build lasting relationships and memories. Embark on a journey that will guide you towards a greater sense of self-esteem, courage, confidence, and character. YMCA Camp Weona offers both traditional and high adventure activities. Horseback riding through the forest, kayaking under the blue sky, making new friends, singing by the campfire, jumping into the refreshing pool, learning how to set up a campsite, fishing at the lake; each day is full of adventure. YMCA Camp Weona serves children 7 to 17 years old with exciting summer camp options for one, or two or more week stays. CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At YMCA Camp Weona, we believe that every child should have the chance to experience camp. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign provides financial assistance to families within our community who are in need of financial support and may not have the ability to pay the full fee. Financial assistance is determined based on a thorough review of an application and a personal interview with the applicant. Assistance will be granted on the basis of financial need resulting from low income, emergency expenses or other circumstances that inhibit an individual’s ability to pay a prescribed fee. As part of our mission, we teach campers responsibility with an opportunity to Earn Their Way to Camp. At YMCA Camp Weona, our rustic cabins provide a home for small groups of no more than 12 campers who live together and attend daily activities as a group. Cabin groups are made up of either boys or girls entering similar grades and registered for the same camp program. Groups of 8-12 campers of similar gender and age attend daily activities together as a cabin with their leaders. The intention is to foster a “family-like” atmosphere within the group. Menu - Our back-to-basics menu is prepared each day in the dining hall. The YMCA offers items that children enjoy in their daily life that help sustain the additional energy needed during long days at camp. Our food service staff prides themselves on the fact that there are no trans fats in our meals. Special consideration is given for children who have allergies or prefer a vegetarian option.

Cabin/Bunk Mates - Campers may request a bunk mate within one school grade of each other, are of the same gender, and are registered for the same program. A bunk mate request is included in the parent pack and must be returned three weeks prior to attendance. Requests made after the three-week deadline may not be honored. In order to promote inclusion within each cabin, only one bunk mate request per child will be honored. (Bunk mates must be reciprocal – ex. John picks Tim and Tim must pick John.) Groups of four or more may be split to promote new camper inclusion.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Little Lions Camp is a kid-centered, fun-based day camp that’s main focus is keeping kids physically and creatively active. Programming features an ever changing combination of classic PE games, backyard favorites, sports, arts and crafts, and special surprises to keep kids happy, active, and engaged. A highly-trained, eclectic staff, that utilizes physical education teachers, athletes, camp veterans, creative types and child care specialists, ensures that games are always changing and that counselors can tailor programming to fit children’s needs and likes.

What is kid-centered programming? Kid-centered programming means our camp staff plans daily programming with the kids likes and dislikes in mind, but daily schedules might change based on camper preference. Wednesday at 2 o’clock might mean a trip to the track, but if the campers vote to play capture the flag for the third day in the row, our counselors are trained to be flexible and receptive. Little Lions Camp is about promoting a safe, welcoming environment that allows kids to participate in the activities that engage them the most.

What is fun-based? Our camp isn’t about shooting the perfect basket or running the fastest in a relay, it’s about being active and trying new things while having fun doing both. Staff will recognize children’s skills and achievements, but our goal is to promote fun and positive relationships.

CAMP FACILITIES: Students will use Hofstra's top-notch facilities, including their Olympic sized pool, while being taught by experts from Nassau BOCES. Time will be split between the classroom and the pool, where students will design and build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and learn about methods in underwater archaeology.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The course will begin with an introduction to the history of marine exploration. Then, as part of a team, they will design and build an underwater ROV and test their designs in the water. Students will also have the opportunity to work with a marine archaeologist and participate in an antique "helmet dive" in Hofstra's pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summers are for having fun. It's a time to spend with friends. To make memories and share experiences that last a lifetime. That's what Mill Basin Day Camp is all about. Mill Basin Day Camp is dedicated to providing an exciting and fulfilling camp experience for both children and their parents by providing fun, recreational, social and educational activities.

We have grown over the past 15 years to become the most popular summer day camp program for kids in the Brooklyn & Queens areas. At least that’s what the kids tell us.

Our staff consists of professionals, many of whom continue to work in child related fields throughout the year. Our directorial staff is comprised of licensed professionals with many years camp experience. All the group leader staff are trained in CPR and First Aid. Our Aquatics programs are staffed by certified and licensed personnel, as required by the NYC Department of Health and American Red Cross.

Safety is our highest priority at Mill Basin Day Camp. We equip our staff and facility with the latest and most modern safety and technological products in order to maintain constant contact and security both on and off the camp facility. Campers also receive Camp Gear which they use throughout the summer.

Our modern, fully air-conditioned facility offers a wide range of activities for children entering Pre-K thru 9th grade in the upcoming September scholastic year. There are Five (5) individual camp programs. Each camp has its own unique and innovative program that best suits the needs of the varying ages of our campers.

There is Pre-School Camp for kids entering Pre-K and Kindergarten. Adventures Camp is for kids entering grades 1 and 2, Stars Camp entering grades 3, 4 & 5.

For older campers there is Explorers Camp for kids going to grades 6 & 7 and they travel as part weeks doing alot of day trips. Finally, there is Teens Camp for teens going to grades 8 & 9 and they are a travel camp. Each group has various methods for integrating new campers into their groups.

Head Counselors are trained to make sure that all campers are introduced to the other campers and are made to feel part of the group in the first few minutes of the camp day. Directors are also at hand to help new campers make any adjustments that they may need.

The typical camp day begins with a first activity at 9:00 am. There are 3 periods in the morning, then lunch, 3 periods in the afternoon. Activities are both indoor and outdoor and are balanced accordingly. Pre-School dismissal times and activities are a bit different and will be explained at a pre-camp parents meeting for registered families.

We realize and understand the pressures facing today's working parents so we have designed a very flexible registration program. Changing your summer schedule by adding, subtracting or changing weeks is never a problem at any time. If summer school is a worry for you, our program is entirely refundable at any time prior to the first day of camp.

CAMP FACILITIES: French Woods Sports and Arts Center features outstanding modern facilities that include a spacious multilevel dining room, heated pool, gymnasium, gymnastics center, fitness center, technology/communications center, recording studio, large theater, dance studio, rock music center, immaculate sports fields, 4 tennis courts, indoor and outdoor volleyball court, indoor and outdoor basketball court, a baseball diamond, archery range, a private lake, equestrian stables, 14 studios for classes and activities, an open air circus area, an advanced medical center, and two large Dormitory buildings (bunks) housing multiple suites that sleep 8 to 10 campers and counselors with en suite bathrooms, plus 3 additional bunk buildings. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: French Woods Sports and Arts Center provides the summer of a lifetime in a safe, supportive, supervised and age appropriate environment. Campers completely determine which activities they will participate in. Children are offered a wide range of activities that include sports, arts, technology, extreme sports, circus, rock music, electronic music, dance, water sports, DJ and radio, theater, communications, magic, cooking, role playing games, and equestrian. All that and more rolled up together into one incredible summer experience!

There are six activities per day, each one hour in length; three of these periods are called majors and three are called minors.

Majors are chosen at the beginning of each session and are maintained for two weeks. Minors are chosen daily at breakfast. This lets you concentrate on the things that interest you, while giving you the chance to try something new.

Empowering our campers to feel good about themselves and their accomplishments can increase motivation to try harder, try new activities, continues to build self-confidence, and achieve self-efficacy. The more you believe in your abilities, the more inclined you are to be motivated to attempt new things and become successful in those endeavors.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT Program: Campers who are entering the 11th and 12th grades have the option of participating in our two level Counselor In Training program. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Time off from school shouldn't be time off from learning!! Summer is the best opportunity to improve children's learning during a time when they are the most relaxed. CAMP FACILITIES: Surprise Lake Camp is blessed with incredible natural beauty. Our camp sits on 500 beautiful wooded acres surrounded by an enormous expanse of undeveloped state parkland. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Surprise Lake Camp has a rich history. It was founded in 1902 by the Educational Alliance to provide a summer vacation for Jewish boys from Main Building - 1920 the tenements of Manhattan's Lower East Side. In its first season, it had six tents for 25 campers and five counselors. One of the first campers was Eddie Cantor, who, upon achieving success as an entertainer, became one of the camp's most ardent supporters. Since then Surprise Lake Camp has served thousands of young people, many of whom have achieved prominence, among them, entertainer Neil Diamond, talk show host Larry King, actor Jerry Stiller, and former New York Attorney General Robert Abrams.

In 1911, the 92nd Street Y became partners in running the camp, and the camp office was located at the Y for many years. In 1917, when the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies was created, Surprise Lake Camp was one of the initial member agencies. The camp then became incorporated as a New York not-for-profit in 1920, eventually leading to complete independence from its founding agencies. Over the years, Surprise Lake Camp has been substantially rebuilt three times. In addition, its clientele and program have evolved as the Jewish community has changed. Originally established to provide summer vacations in the country for poor boys from the lower East Side, the camp has also gone through periods when it was dedicated to feeding undernourished boys, operated as a year-round camp which included formal education during the winter, committed to the personal development of children using a social group work model, and run as a general co-ed summer camp with special emphasis on scholarships.
